Jorge Martin beats Francesco Bagnaia by 0.043s lap to secure MotoGP pole in Italian GP, with Maverick Vinales in third.

Q1:

The first part in MotoGP qualifying in Italian GP at Mugello saw Pramac Ducati’s Franco Morbidelli after their first run with a 1m45.465s lap ahead of V46 Ducati’s Fabio di Giannantonio, with Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez just behind in third.

Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo slotted in fourth ahead of VR46’s Marco Bezzecchi, as wildcard Pol Espargaro led the KTM charge in sixth with both the factory riders behind him. But the second run didn’t do well for him after a strange crash for the Spaniard.

Morbidelli, meanwhile, set a 1m44.726s lap to make it into Q2 along with Fernandez, with KTM’s Brad Binder improving to be third to start 13th ahead of di Giannantonio and Quartararo in the Top 15, with Bezzecchi in 16th just outside it.

Honda’s charge was led by Joan Mir in 17th from LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco, with KTM’s Jack Miller only 19th ahead of GASGAS Tech 3’s Augusto Fernandez, Espargaro, Aprilia wildcard Lorenzo Savadori, LCR’s Takaaki Nakagami and Honda’s Luca Marini.

Q2:

The second part in MotoGP qualifying in Italian GP started with a slight scare between Gresini Ducati’s Marc Marquez and Tech 3’s Pedro Acosta where both were going slow offline, which caught out the latter as he had to take an evasive action.

At the front, Pramac’s Jorge Martin got himself on top with a 1m44.504s lap with Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia only 0.043s behind after their first run. The Italian is carrying a 3-place grid drop for impeding Gresini’s Alex Marquez in the practice session.

Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales was third from M Marquez, as Ducati’s Enea Bastianini was fifth from Acosta. For the second run, Bagnaia went early but it didn’t work out as he stayed second in the order, with others following suit behind him.

But the last sector was the killer for most as majority couldn’t improve much on their position due to that. M Marquez’s session was done after a tumble but Martin’s first attempt was enough to hand him MotoGP pole in Italian GP at Mugello.

He led Bagnaia, who will drop to fifth for the grand prix, as Vinales was third from M Marquez and Bastianini in the Top 5. Late improvements saw Morbidelli end up sixth to drop Acosta to seventh, whose run was hampered due to an off moment.

Gresini’s A Marquez’s late lap put him in eighth from Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro, Yamaha’s Alex Rins and the pair of Trackhouse riders, with Miguel Oliveira ahead in 11th from Fernandez.
