Marc Marquez took MotoGP pole in wet conditions in German GP, ahead of Johann Zarco and Marc Bezzecchi.
Q1:
The first part in MotoGP qualifying in German GP at Sachsenring was a wet one but not bad enough for riders to stay indoors. It was LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco on top with a 1m28.370s lap ahead of Tech 3 KTM’s Maverick Vinales, with Pramac Yamaha’s Miguel Oliveira in third just outside.
Despite the tricky conditions, the riders did not drop off as one would expect. Zarco improved further to set a 1m27.827s lap to make it in Q2 along with Vinales, as Oliveria was knocked out in 13th from Gresini Ducati’s Fermin Aldeguer and the returning Honda’s Luca Marini.
Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez had one of his best laps interrupted and a go around resulted in only 16th from Honda’s Joan Mir, Yamaha’s Alex Rins, Trackhouse Ai Ogura and Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori.
Q2:
The rain intensified to start the second part in MotoGP qualifying in German GP at Sachsenring. Having made it inside in the second part, Vinales had a highside to crash out. He managed to get back and not before, Pramac’s Jack Miller crashed at the same spot and rushed to the pits.
Despite the conditions, the lap times continued to improve lap after lap. It was Ducati’s Marc Marquez still on top with a 1m27.811s lap as he braved the conditions to take MotoGP pole in German GP. It was valiant effort from Zarco and Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi, but they only managed second and third.
VR46 Ducati’s Franco Morbidelli looked to get onto the front row if not pole, but crashed on his final fast lap attempt. He had to be content with fourth from KTM’s Pedro Acosta, as Gresini’s Alex Marquez was sixth ahead of Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo and VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio.
Miller managed to get back to finish ninth ahead of KTM’s Brad Binder, as Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia only managed 11th in a tough situation. Vinales made it in the pits but couldn’t ride after he was taken to the medical centre for a check-up. He was then taken to the local hospital for further check on his shoulder.
