Marc Marquez survives early scare to MotoGP sprint win in Italian GP ahead of Alex Marquez, as Francesco Bagnaia dropped to third.
It was a hectic start to MotoGP sprint in Italian GP at Mugello as Ducati’s Marc Marquez dropped out due to late adjustment on his bike. He barely had time to see the green flag while adjusting a switch. Despite loosing chunk of places, he managed to climb back up to third by the end of the lap.
Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia took the lead from Gresini Ducati’s Alex Marquez, as Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo was fourth from Tech 3 KTM’s Maverick Vinales in the Top 5. KTM’s Pedro Acosta was sixth ahead of the pair of VR46 Ducati where Franco Morbidelli led Fabio di Giannantonio.
Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi was ninth in the points, with Pramac Yamaha’s Jack Miller just outside. The fag end of the Top 10 saw KTM’s Brad Binder making a minor contact with di Giannantonio at the right-hander. The South African slipped and took LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco along.
The incident was put under investigation as KTM’s day turned in disaster after Acosta crashed out few laps later. At the front, A Marquez hustled Bagnaia for the lead, he brought M Marquez along. In the couple of corners, the Gresini rider managed to take the Italian GP lead.
Bagnaia couldn’t hold onto second as he lost to M Marquez soon. Vinales, meanwhile, passed Quartararo for fourth, who had the pair of VR46 riders on his tail. It was di Giannantonio ahead of Morbidelli after the former managed to pass his teammate in early laps.
Bezzecchi ran on the tail of this fight, as Miller dropped back hugely which allowed Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez in the points in ninth from Gresini’s Fermin Aldeguer. The fight for the lead didn’t last long as M Marquez cleared A Marquez with six laps remaining, while Bagnaia dropped behind.
Vinales was a good fourth from di Gannantonio, Morbidelli and Bezzecchi – all of whom managed to clear Quartararo one by one. The Frenchman was eighth from Fernandez, but not for long. The Trackhouse rider cleared him for eighth with three laps remaining.
At the same time, Bezzecchi managed an easier pass on Morbidelli for sixth, as Vinales started to close in on Bagnaia for third. Ahead of them, M Marquez survived early scare to win MotoGP sprint in Italian GP ahead of A Marquez, as Bagnaia held off Vinales for third with di Giannantonio in fifth.
Bezzecchi was sixth from Morbidelli, Fernandez and Aldeguer in the Top 9 points places, after late pass from the Gresini rider on Quartararo, whose good qualifying turned bad.
