Marc Marquez eased to MotoGP pole in Hungarian GP without a fight, as Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio di Giannantonio rounded the Top 3.
Q1:
The first part in MotoGP qualifying in Hungarian GP at Balaton Park saw early banker from Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi after his 1m36.974s lap ahead of KTM’s Brad Binder, with the other Aprilia’s Jorge Martin just outside the Top 2 mark in third, ahead of VR46 Ducati’s Fabio di Giannantonio.
Pramac Yamaha’s Jack Miller was fifth, as Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia was forced to abort his first run without a timed lap. The first lap on his second run put the Italian in second. It was Bezzecchi on top after an improved lap of 1m36.800s, to make it into Q2 with ease.
Binder stepped up to second but di Giannantonio improved as well to set the same lap of 1m37.047s. On the countback of their second best lap, the VR46 rider made it through to Q2, with the KTM rider having to settle for third, to start 13th for the sprint and main races.
Miller was 14th from Bagnaia, who had a terrible couple of laps after his initial quick lap. Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez was 16th from Martin, sole LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco, Pramac’s Miguel Oliveira, Yamaha’s Alex Rins and Trackhouse’s Ai Ogura, to round the 11 runners.
Q2:
The second part in MotoGP qualifying in Hungarian GP saw a fall for KTM’s Pedro Acosta at Turn 8. His bike was destroyed as he hurried back into the garage to hop onto the second bike. On track, Bezzecchi had to abort his first run after a trip through the gravel on his quick lap.
The duo had no timed lap after the first run by the 12 MotoGP riders. It was Ducati’s Marc Marquez on top with a 1m36.646s lap, as he led Tech 3 KTM’s Enea Bastianini and Honda’s Joan Mir in the Top 3, with Gresini Ducati’s Fermin Aldeguer slotting in fourth ahead of VR46’s Franco Morbidelli.
The second run saw another moment for Bezzecchi on his first attempt. But he shot up to second on his second attempt. M Marquez improved on his time to a 1m36.518s to take MotoGP pole in Hungarian GP, ahead of Bezzecchi and di Giannantonio in the Top 3, with Bastianini in fourth.
Morbidelli slotted in fifth from Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo, Acosta and Aldeguer, as Honda pair of Luca Marini and Mir ended up ninth and 10th, with Gresini’s Alex Marquez only 11th and Tech 3’s Pol Espargaro 12th, after a late fall for the Spaniard.
