Marc Marquez came through after early drop to win MotoGP sprint in wet German GP, as Marco Bezzecchi was second from Fabio Quartararo.
The MotoGP sprint in German GP at Sachsenring was declared wet, as Ducati’s Marc Marquez had a wide moment to drop down, as Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchil took the lead from VR46 Ducati’s Franco Morbidelli and Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo in the Top 3, ahead of VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio.
M Marquez slotted in fifth from Gresini Ducati’s Alex Marquez, with KTM’s Pedro Acosta slotting in seventh from teammate Brad Binder and Pramac Yamaha’s Jack Miller, where both managed to clear LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco after the Frenchman’s fall from front row to outside points.
Acosta was the rider on charge after clearing A Marquez, who had a minor touch against Quartararo at the start to drop down. But Binder couldn’t show the same pace after losing out to Miller. In the meantime, Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia dropped down the order making no progress.
While Bezzecchi had the lead, Morbidelli crashed out from second after a multiple roll over on the gravel, which shook him heavy. Quartararo took second but di Giannantonio was caught up by M Marquez and Acosta, who cleared him quickly to be third and fourth.
Miller was sixth from Binder, who passed A Marquez as well, as Zarco ran ninth in the final points position, keeping Gresini’s Fermin Aldeguer at bay. The charge from Acosta was over after he ran on the gravel on Lap 4. He managed to stay on the bike to rejoin in 12th behind Baganaia.
M Marquez, meanwhile, passed Quartararo for second and had a minor moment straightaway. The Frenchman had to defend from di Giannantonio. It was same for Bezzecchi at the front, as M Marquez managed to cut down the lead by the start of the final lap.
The Spaniard made the move on the final lap at Turn 1 and even though he ran slightly wide, M Marquez managed to hang on to win the MotoGP sprint in German GP to extend his points lead. Quartararo hung on to third from di Giannantonio, as Miller made it two Yamahas in the Top 5.
Binder was sixth from Zarco, who cleared A Marquez as well. Acosta recovered to score the final point in ninth ahead of Aldeguer, as Bagnaia could only manage 12th in the end. The race direction, meanwhile, informed that Morbidelli was taken to the hospital after his heavy shunt.
He joined Tech 3 KTM pair of Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini in a hospital visit. While Bastianini was ruled out already at the start of the weekend, Vinales had a qualifying crash and was declared unfit for the rest of the weekend. Here: https://x.com/Tech3Racing/status/1944007869474451479

UPDATE: Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) will be forced to watch from the sidelines on Sunday after the Italian crashed out of the Tissot Sprint in Germany. The #21 is suffering from pain in his shoulder and the VR46 team confirmed he’ll sit it out and return to Italy for further checks.
Morbidelli joins Maverick Viñales (Red Bull KTM Tech3) in not taking to the grid after the KTM rider likewise injured his shoulder on Saturday, in his case in Q2. The bad luck leaves both officially “unfit” and we await news of whether they’ll be back to try and compete in Brno. MotoGP sends them both well wishes, and we hope we’ll see both back to fighting fit soon!
