Alex Marquez kept Marc Marquez at bay to win MotoGP race in Catalan GP, as Enea Bastianini climbed up to third.

It was clean start in MotoGP race in Catalan GP at Barcelona as Ducati’s Marc Marquez took the lead from Gresini Ducati’s Alex Marquez, with KTM’s Pedro Acosta in third from Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo. Honda’s Luca Marini and LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco moved up to fifth and sixth.

Tech 3 KTM’s Enea Bastianini was seventh but made up two places by end of Lap 1 to be fifth and ahead of the pair of Hondas. Trackhouse Aprilia’s Ai Ogura was eighth from VR46 Ducati’s Franco Morbidelli and Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi in the Top 10, as VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio was 11th.

The pair of VR46 riders made a bad start to drop down, while Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia was up to 12th by the end of Lap 1. KTM’s Brad Binder dropped to 13th, with Gresini’s Fermin Aldeguer 14th and Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez rounding the Top 15 points places.

At the front, M Marquez was being closely chased by A Marquez and Acosta, as Bastianini cleared Quartararo after multiple attempts. An attempt from Bezzecchi to clear Morbidelli at Turn 1 ended in a fall for the Italian, which caught out di Giannantonio as well. The latter managed to pick up to continue.

The likes of Morbidelli, Aldeguer and Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori had to serve their respective Long Gap Penalty, with the latter to serve two of them. At the front, A Marquez made his move at Turn 1 to take the MotoGP lead in Catalan GP, as M Marquez tried to come back in following laps but it didn’t happen.

Acosta and Bastianini were close behind M Marquez, as Quartararo fended off Zarco, who cleared Marini for sixth. Bagnaia was up to eighth from Ogura and Fernandez in the Top 10. Aprilia’s Jorge Martin moved up to 11th and brought Pramac Yamaha’s Miguel Oliveira along.

Even Yamaha’s Alex Rins and Honda’s Joan Mir made it in points, with Aldeguer recovering to 15th by Lap 9. Binder suffered a fall to retire, as Zarco and Marini cleared Quartararo to slot in fifth and sixth. Just ahead, Bastianini finally managed to clear Acosta for third on Lap 11 at Turn 1.

No sooner did Zarco got fifth, he dropped it to retire. Di Giannantonio retired a few laps later while running with a damaged bike at the back. A couple of laps later, Rins crashed out at Turn 10. It steadied in the front between A Marquez, M Marque and Bastianini in the Top 3.

Acosta dropped off in fourth from Marini and Quartararo, as Bagnaia moved up to seventh from Ogura, Fernandez and Oliveira in the Top 10. He was being chased by Mir after he cleared Martin. Aldeguer and Morbidelli climbed back up to 13th and 14th, with Tech 3’s Maverick Vinales in 15th.

There was a late fall for Savadori to retire, followed by Morbidelli. At the front, A Marquez managed to hold off M Marquez well to win the MotoGP race in Catalan GP to keep an outside chance alive in the championship. Bastianini faded off the Top 2 but secured a podium in third.

Acosta hung onto fourth as Quartararo cleared Marini on the penultimate lap to be fifth. In fact, Ogura and Bagnaia passed the Honda rider as well on the final lap to be sixth and seventh. The Japanese rider had cleared the Ducati rider on the penultimate lap as well.

Oliveira and Martin managed to clear Fernandez to be ninth and 10th. Mir was 12th from Vinales, who managed to clear Aldeguer late in the race. He even lost to Pramac’ Jack Miller, who ended up 14th. LCR’S Somkiat Chantra and Honda’s Aleix Espargaro rounded the 17 runners.
