Marc Marquez dominates in MotoGP win in German GP ahead of Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia, which saw only 10 finishers.
It was sunny for the MotoGP race in German GP at Sachsenring where Ducati’s Marc Marquez made a good start to lead from fighting Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi and VR46 Ducati’s Fabio di Giannantonio, who exchanged places on Lap 1. Gresini Ducati’s Alex Marquez moved up to fourth.
LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco lost out to fifth from KTM’s Pedro Acosta, as Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia moved up to seventh from Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo, Honda’s Luca Marini and Pramac Yamaha’s Jack Miller in the Top 10, with KTM’s Brad Binder just outside but in points.
The fight between Bezzecchi and di Giannantonio continued on but the latter got the last laugh in the final part to get through second. The Aprilia rider then had A Marquez and Acosta in the fight after the KTM rider passed Zarco, who was cleared by Bagnaia too for sixth.
Bezzecchi initially lost to A Marquez as Acosta almost got through, but the Aprilia rider came back at Turn 1 and got third back. Acosta tried to sneak in but eventually crashed out on the same lap. Just before him, Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori had a fall but he managed to rejoin and continue.
Pramac’s Miguel Oliveira too had a crash. At the front, M Marquez steadied in the lead from di Giannantonio, as Bezzecchi continued to keep A Marquez off. Bagnaia ran fifth from Zarco, with Miller in seventh from Quartararo, Marini and KTM’s Brad Binder in the Top 10.
Gresini’s Fermin Aldeguer was 11th from Honda’s Joan Mir, Trackhouse Aprilia pair of Raul Fernandez & Ai Ogura, with Yamaha’s Alex Rins rounding Top 15 points places. The top half settled down but a wide moment from Miller allowed Quartararo to seventh, as Binder cleared Marini for ninth.
Aldeguer too got Marini for 10th. In fact, the Gresini rider managed to clear Binder for ninth soon. The fight down the order continued midway in the grand prix when Aldeguer managed to catch Miller and pass him for eighth. Just few places behind, Mir managed to clear teammate Marini for 11th.
Things looked settled at the front, but Lap 18 saw two incidents in the same Turn 1 corner one after another. Di Giannantonio had a fall first after losing the front end and he was followed by Zarco. The Frenchman was under investigation for yellow flag infringement, which was cleared.
It was Bezzecchi in second from A Marquez with Bagnaia up to fourth from Quartararo, Aldeguer, Miller, Marini, Binder and Mir in the Top 10, with Fernandez and Ogura behind. But Turn 1 mayhem didn’t end there. Bezzecchi too suffered a fall from second to allow A Marquez and Bagnaia on the podium.
Not long Ogura crashed into Mir at Turn 1 and while they were getting up, Savadori crashed out at the same corner. Both the incidents were put under investigation. At the front, M Marquez lead by over six seconds over A Marquez and Bagnaia in the Top 3, with Quartararo in fourth from Aldeguer.
Miller was up sixth from Marini, Binder, Fernandez and Rins in the Top 10, who were the remaining runners. At the front, M Marquez dominated to win MotoGP race by 6.380s margin over A Marquez, who had Bagnaia not far behind in third, as Quartararo fended off Aldeguer for fourth.
Marini managed to clear Miller for sixth, who lost seventh for Binder. The Australian almost lost eighth to Fernandez but hung on, as Rins rounded out the Top 10 and only finishers in a grand prix of attrition, which saw eight crashes and four non-starters.
