MotoGP: Bastianini wins Thai GP sprint as Martin overcomes to P2

MotoGP, Thai GP, Enea Bastianini

Enea Bastianini took the MotoGP sprint win in Thai GP, as Jorge Martin was crucially second ahead of title rival Francesco Bagnaia.

It was a fast start from Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin in MotoGP sprint in Thai GP to storm into the lead from third, but Ducat’s Enea Bastianini came through to take the top spot from him and teammate Francesco Bagnaia in the first few corners.

It was Bastianini then leading Bagnaia with Gresini Ducati’s Marc Marquez in third ahead of GASGAS Tech 3’s Pedro Acosta, with Martin dropping to fifth. Gresini’s Alex Marquez was sixth from KTM’s Brad Binder, as VR46 Ducati’s Marco Bezzecchi dropped to eighth.

Pramac’s Franco Morbidelli gained off the line to be in the final points position in ninth ahead of VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio. The big drop came from Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo, who had a moment on the kerb and dropped out of sixth place.

As the laps progressed, Bastianini had a comfortable lead over Bagnaia, but Martin started to make inroads. He cleared Acosta first and followed it up with a pass on M Marquez. It took few laps and a long way pass on Bagnaia to take second away.

He had track limits warning which put him on the bubble but he hung on. Acosta, meanwhile, had a crash but managed to continue until he had to retire. A Marquez was fifth but Morbidelli like his teammate made inroads to move up to sixth.

He brought di Giannantonio along with him. It was clear at the front for Bastianini, who took the MotoGP sprint win in Thai GP as Martin kept off Bagnaia to end up second and score enough points to further put a stamp on his points lead.

Bagnaia had to settle for third from M Marquez and A Marquez, as Morbidelli was sixth, Bezzecchi seventh and di Giannantonio eighth to make it all eight Ducati riders in the Top 8, as Binder scored the final point in ninth from a recovering Quartararo.
