Pramac’s Enea Bastianini came through to win MotoGP Americas GP as Suzuki’s Alex Rins passed Ducati’s Jack Miller to take second.
The MotoGP Americas GP started off on a sound note for Ducati’s Jack Miller who took the lead from pole-sitter Jorge Martin onboard Pramac Ducati. Gresini Ducati’s Enea Bastianini jumped to third from Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia and Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo.
Pramac’s Johann Zarco dropped to sixth from Suzuki pair of Joan Mir and Alex Rins, with Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro and Honda’s Pol Espargaro rounding the Top 10, where his teammate Marc Marquez had a horrible start to drop to last in the order.
His brother Alex Marquez’s race ended after he crashed his LCR Honda at Turn 11. This came after VR46 Ducati’s Marco Bezzecchi crashed at Turn 15. He managed to continue but a mechanical problem eventually ended his grand prix.
At the front, Miller continued to lead from Martin and Bastianini. Behind them, Zarco was up to fourth from Rins, with Bagnaia dropping to sixth from Mir who had Quartararo on his tail after the reigning MotoGP champion lost three places after first lap.
A Espargaro steadied in ninth but he had Marquez for company, who climbed up the order rapidly and even passed his teammate Pol for 10th. KTM’s Brad Binder was 12th from Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales, LCR’s Takaaki Nakagami and KTM’s Miguel Oliveira in Top 15.
The fight for third place started to become tasty as Bastianini came under pressure from Zarco and Rins. The Suzuki rider was on the move as he went past the Pramac rider to fourth. He pressed on to pass the Gresini rider too, but he came back on him.
The Ducati power helped him to regain third, as Zarco came under pressure from Bagnaia. Amid the push from Rins to Bastianini, he in turn closed in on Martin. And both got through the Pramac rider to be second and third as Mir got into the thick of things too.
He passed Zarco and got ahead of Martin for fourth with Bagnaia getting through Zarco and Martin too in fifth. The Pramac rider dropped from second to sixth with Marquez on his tail after he cleared Espargaro, Zarco and Quartararo to move up to seventh.
Quartararo was eighth from Zarco with A Esapragro 10th from Binder and Vinales, both of whom pushed P Espargaro to 13th. While all this went on, Bastianini started to hustle Miller and eventually passed him to lead the MotoGP Americas GP with five laps to go.
Rins steadied in third from Mir and Bagnaia, as Marquez and Quartararo moved up to sixth and seventh after passing Martin. He stuck with them though but Quartararo started to hustle Marquez for sixth and even passed him once before he got re-passed.
It happened again and Marquez got through again. Further up, Bastianini took his second MotoGP win in Americas GP, as Rins passed Miller on the final lap to take second. The Australian tried to get back on him and he did so, but the Spaniard got back ahead.
Mir was fourth from Bagnaia, with Marquez keeping sixth from Quartararo after a hectic ride from last which included a heavy moment. Martin was eighth from Zarco with Vinales passing teammate Espargaro for 10th. Binder was 12th from Espargaro.
Nakagami was 14th as Yamaha’s Franco Morbidelli ended up 15th after coming through from the back. RND Yamaha’s Andrea Dovizioso ended up 16th outside of points with VR46’s Luca Marini in 17th from KTM’s Oliveira.
The Tech 3 KTM pair of Raul Fernandez and Remy Gardner was 19th and 20th, with Gresini’s Fabio di Giannantonio 21st and RNF’s Darryn Binder 22nd. DNF: Marquez, Bezzecchi.
