Enea Bastiani recovered to win MotoGP race in British GP after passing both Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia.
It was a clean start at the front where Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia led the MotoGP race in British GP at an overcast Silverstone circuit. His teammate Enea Bastianini was up to second after a touch between Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin and Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro.
The Pramac rider was third from Espargaro as they were followed by Gresini Ducati pair of Marc Marquez and Alex Marquez ahead of the fighting pair of VR46 Ducati’s Fabio di Giannantonio and GASGAS Tech 3’s Pedro Acosta in the Top 8.
KTM’s Jack Miller was ninth from Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales in the Top 10, where Miller’s teammate Brad Binder had a terrible start to drop back and retire due to a suspected issue. The same lap saw Trackhouse Aprilia pair colliding to end their race.
Both Raul Fernandez and Miguel Oliveira retired as Pramac’s Franco Morbidelli had to serve a Double Long Gap Penalty. At the front, Bagnaia continued to lead as a wide moment from Bastianini allowed Martin to pass him for second with Espargaro following suit a lap later.
M Marquez tried a look-in but Bastianini held onto fourth and on the tail of Espargaro. A Marquez was a distant sixth from di Giannantonio who regained seventh after Acosta gone through him in the early part of the race. Miller was ninth from VR46’s Marco Bezzecchi.
He dropped Vinales to 11th who was in points along with Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo, Honda pair of Luca Marini & Joan Mir, as Morbidelli rounded out the Top 15 after serving his penalty. They all dropped LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco, who ran in points early on.
The leading group started to spread out as Bagnaia had Martin on his tail, but Espargaro dropped behind against Bastianini and M Marquez. The Italian made a quick work to pass the Spaniard for third with A Marquez having to fend of di Giannantonio.
The two exchanged places for couple of times but di Giannantonio had a last laugh in sixth from A Marquez, whole Acosta remained eighth. Bezzecchi climbed up to ninth from Miller and Vinales. At the back, Mir retired due to a mechanical issue from points.
But at the front, Martin finally made the move on Bagnaia to take the MotoGP lead in British GP. There was a wide moment few laps later but he retained the lead still, as this brought Bastianini in the game with the Top 3 closely packed together.
A wide moment from Bagnaia eventually allowed Bastianini to take second in the chase of Martin. Behind them, M Marquez made a move on Espargaro for fourth, with the likes of di Giannantonio and A Marquez joining the battle in close quarters.
The fight for the win intensified as Bastianini took out chunk of time from Martin. Despite hanging on in the front, the Spaniard’s wide moment on the penultimate lap allowed the Italian to sneak through to lead the MotoGP race in British GP.
Bastianini eventually hung on to win the MotoGP race in British GP in the 75th anniversary celebrations, as Martin and Bagnaia had to content with second and third where the Spaniard retook the points lead by three points.
M Marquez was fourth from di Giannantonio who cleared Espargaro on the final lap for fifth. A Marquez was seventh from Bezzecchi, who cleared Acosta for eighth as Morbidelli climbed back up to 10th after dropping outside the points places due to penalty.
Quartararo was 11th from Miller and Vinales, both of whom lost pace towards the end. Zarco was 14th from Marini in the Top 15 but tyre pressure investigation for the latter could drop him outside the points which would benefit LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami.
Tech 3’s Augusto Fernandez was 17th from Yahama’s Remy Gardner to round out the 18 finishers from the 22 who started.
