Francesco Bagnaia made a good start to lead and win the MotoGP sprint in Italian GP from Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta.
It was a sold start from Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia from the front row to take the lead of MotoGP sprint in Italian GP at Mugello, with teammate Enea Bastianini also making a good start to be second resisting pressure from pole-sitter Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin.
KTM’s Brad Binder made a rocket start to be fourth ahead of Gresini Ducati’s Marc Marquez as Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales dropped to seventh on Lap 1 behind GASGAS Tech 3’s Pedro Acosta. Pramac’s Franco Morbidelli was eighth from Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro in Top 9.
There was double incident across two laps where the first one saw a crash between Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo and Trackhouse Aprilia’s Miguel Oliveira outside the points. The incident was put under investigation, as was the Turn 1 involving Bastianini and Martin.
The latter tried a move on the inside at Turn 1, where the former went slightly wide. As Martin took the line, he touched Bastianini who slid across before managing to continue. He was forced to pit as the incident was termed a racing one between the two.
The same happened for Quartararo and Oliveira too. Martin’s race, meanwhile, didn’t end there as he started to come under pressure from Marquez who passed Binder for fourth. With Bastianini out, it was a fight for second between Martin and Marquez.
Acosta was another rider to move ahead along with Morbidelli, as both of them cleared Binder to be fourth and fifth. Vinales stayed seventh with VR46 Ducati’s Fabio di Giannantonio and Gresini’s Alex Marquez moved up to eighth and ninth in the points.
With Bagnaia leading, Martin had to defend from Marquez for second. The two went back and forth for a couple of laps but it ended in a crash for the former while chasing the latter at Turn 1. He lost control while trying to stay with Marquez but he prished.
Acosta took third as a result, with Morbidelli up to fourth from Vinales who cleared Binder for fifth, as di Giannantonio, A Marquez and Espargaro rounded the Top 9 points from Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez, who was chasing the Spaniard for the last point.
Honda’s Joan Mir, meanwhile, retired due to mechanical issue. Up front, Bagnaia took it cautiously to win the MotoGP sprint in Italian GP ahead of Marquez and Acosta, with Morbidelli in fourth from Vinales, Binder, di Giannantonio, A Marquez and Espargaro in the Top 9 points places.
