It was a Ducati 1-2 in Emilia Romagna GP as Francesco Bagnaia took fourth consecutive MotoGP pole from Jack Miller and Avintia Ducati’s Luca Marini.

Q1:

The first part in MotoGP Emilia Romagna GP had the heavyweights in the game after they did not have a good practice run in greasy conditions. The qualifying saw similar cloudy conditions on display with the title contenders leading the way through.

Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia was the man to beat as he set the pace with a 1m33.393s to make it into Q2 as a late push lap from Tech 3 KTM’s Iker Lecuona saw him make it in as well, with a 1m34.099s lap. He pushed Suzuki’s Alex Rins to 13th as a result.

But an improvement from Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo demoted Rins to 14th, but the Frenchman’s lap was under question due to yellow flags in Sector 1 and 2. LCR Honda’s Alex Marquez slotted behind the Suzuki rider in 15th, recovering from his FP4 crash.

His teammate Takaaki Nakagami was 16th from the returning Maverick Vinales abode the Aprilia MotoGP machine. Avintia Ducati’s Enea Bastianini was 18th but had a late crash, ahead of Suzuki’s Joan Mir who also had a crash earlier in the session.

KTM’s Brad Binder ended up 20th from Petronas SRT’s Andrea Dovizioso, Ducati’s Michele Pirro and the other Petronas SRT of Valentino Rossi. Even Pirro had a crash in the session, while Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori missed the session after collarbone injury.

Post-session, the FIM stewards disallowed the lap of Quartararo after he set that while under yellow flag. He dropped to 15th as a result, allowing Rins and Marquez to end up 13th and 14th respectively.

Q2:

The second part in MotoGP Emilia Romagna GP started with a bang after a massive safe from Honda’s Marc Marquez at Turn 2. He almost had a big highside but kept it in check with Avintia Ducati’s Luca Marini in the box seat to see how he did so behind.

There was double off for Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin. He had an off at Turn 8 but managed to continue on, before crashing out at Turn 16. At the front, meanwhile, Ducati’s Bagnaia led the way with s 1m33.045s lap from teammate Jack Miller.

The Australian also had a gravel run but continued on, as Honda’s Pol Espargaro was third. The last few minutes were atrocious for riders as there were multiple yellow flag periods for multiple incidents, involving Tech 3 pair of Danilo Petrucci and Lecuona.

It was Petrucci to crash first up as Lecuona followed it up within few seconds. A minute after, it was Marquez’s turn to fall as Pramac Ducati’s Johann Zarco slid through after the chequered flag was waved, as Bagnaia made it four MotoGP poles in a row.

It was a Ducati 1-2 for Emilia Romagna GP, with Miller in second – missing out by just 0.025s as Marini rounded out the Top 3, who was a further 0.060s away. Honda’s Espargaro was fourth from KTM’s Miguel Oliveira and Yamaha’s Franco Morbidelli.

It was the best result for Morbidelli abode the Yamaha, as Honda’s Marquez was seventh from Tech 3 pair of Lecuona and Petrucci. Pramac’s Zarco was ninth from Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro as Pramac’s Martin rounded the Top 12.
