Francesco Bagnaia controlled pace in MotoGP win in Austrian GP ahead of Jorge Martin and Enea Bastianini in a Ducati 1-2-3 finish.
It was a clean start at the front where Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin took the MotoGP lead in Austrian GP at Red Bull Ring ahead of Ducati pair of Frencesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini, as they slotted ahead of the KTM pair of Jack Miller and Brad Binder.
Both Bastianini and Binder made places which dropped Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro to sixth as his teammate Maverick Vinales climbed up to seventh. VR46 Ducati’s Marco Bezzecchi was eighth from KTM’s Pol Espargaro and Gresini Ducati’s Alex Marquez in the Top 10.
His teammate Marc Marquez had a bad start and had a tangle with Pramac’s Franco Morbidelli at the start which dropped them both in the middle of the pack. The incident was put under investigation, as the lead changed hands at the front.
Bagnaia cleared Martin to take the lead and despite an attempt from the latter. Bastianini hung on to third but there were battles behind. Miller started to come under pressure from Binder and Bezzecchi, who managed to clear both the Aprilia riders.
Binder moved up to fourth along with Bezzecchi, as Miller dropped to sixth ahead of M Marquez. The Spaniard carved his way through from 13th to seventh after clearing his brother and the two Aprilia riders in the chase of the Top 5 finish.
A Espargaro dropped behind Vinales for a brief moment but regained to the place to be eighth, with A Marquez in 10th. Morbidelli, meanwhile, was up to 11th from P Esaprgaro, Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez & Miguel Oliveira and GASGAS Tech 3’s Pedro Acosta in the Top 15 points places.
While Bagnaia and Martin checked out in the front, M Marquez started to hustle Miller. His elbow touched the rear tyre of the Australian, who eventually crashed out in the next lap. It put the Spaniard in sixth in the chase of fifth against Bezzecchi.
It took few laps but Marquez made his way through Bezzecchi for fifth and eventually cleared Binder for fourth behind the Top 3. Just behind them, A Espargaro had teammate Vinales on his tail in the fight for seventh, which he managed to take it away.
They had Morbidelli in ninth after he climbed back up to be ahead of A Marquez in the Top 10. P Espargaro hung on to 11th from Oliveira, R Fernandez, Acosta and Tech 3’s Augusto Fernandez in the Top 15, as Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo was handed Long Gap Penalty for track limits.
It was clean at the front as Bagnaia controlled in another MotoGP win in Austrian GP from Martin and Bastianini in the Top 3 as Marquez was fourth from Binder, Bezzecchi and Vinales, with Morbidelli passing A Espargaro for eighth on the final lap.
A Marquez was 10th from P Espargaro after the latter took back the place he lost to Oliveira and Acosta, who had to settle for 12th and 13th from LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami and A Fernandez in the Top 15 points places.
Yamaha’s Alex Rins missed out in 16th from Honda’s Joan Mir, Quartararo, Miller, Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori, LCR’s Johann Zarco and Honda’s Stefan Bradl among the 22 finishers.
