Moto3 racer Jakub Kornfeil has been forced to end his racing career due to budgetary reasons as he pulls out of the 2020 world championship.
Kornfeil has been racing in the Moto3 championship since 2012, where he has competed for Honda, KTM and Peugeot/Mahindra. He raced in the 125cc class before with Aprilia since 2009. His best finish came in 2016 and 2018, where he was classified eighth.
And in the eight seasons, he managed five podium finishes. For 2020, Kornfeil was to race for BOE Skull Rider Mugen Race KTM, having ended his long-standing association with PrustelGP, but before he could start his preparations, he is forced out.
That leaves the team to find an alternative alongside Makar Yurchenko, while Kornfeil seemingly has to end his racing career. “At the end of the season, in Valencia, I never imagined that this would be the last race of my career in the MotoGP Championship.
“I still have a valid contract with the team, but I was forced to make this very important decision for my life. I should have started the season on a different budget than what I thought, what I hoped to have, and I wouldn’t even have the certainty of reaching the race at Mugello.
“I still feel like a winner, even if I never won the title. I’ve always tried to do my best both on and off the track,” summed up Kornfeil, on his Instagram account. The 2020 Moto3 grid was all set until the late pullout by the Czech racer, with replacement to be named.
