Mortara claims storming pole position

Edoardo Mortara continues his storming week-end at Hungaroring with a pole position ahead of Mattias Ekström and Marco Wittmann and proves the title battle is not over yet.

Adrien Tambay was the first driver to head out ahead of his teammate Jamie Green, most drivers only heading for one or two outlaps before going back into the pits. The Mercedes were the first to set fast times, Lucas Auer being the fastest of them, five minutes into the session. Team Rosberg drivers went immediately faster than the Mercedes.

Marco Wittmann managed to split the two Audi of Green and Tambay and so did Robert Wickens. Halfway through the session, Green led from Wittmann and Maxime Martin, BMW seemingly having found their pace back unlike Mercedes.

Drivers headed out for a final lap with four minutes to go. With one minute to go, Wittmann went fastest before Ekström could go faster. Edoardo Mortara was the first driver to dip under the 1:35’ laptime.

Edoardo Mortara claimed pole position for the second race of DTM in Hungaroring ahead of Mattias Ekström and Marco Wittmann. Green, Molina, Martin, Blomqvist -under investigation for blocking-, Wickens, Müller and Tambay completed the top 10. If BMW could improve their pace since free-practice, Mercedes was still lacking of speed.
