The Formula E has decided to advance the date of the Monaco E-Prix in 2027 by two weeks, with the aim of eliminating a conflict with the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Competitions on the iconic streets of Monte Carlo will take place on May 1 and 2, 2027, closer to the double-header weekend scheduled in Berlin. Previously, the race was set for May 15 and 16, the same week that the WEC was competing at Spa-Francorchamps.
This overlap represented a significant inconvenience for drivers competing in both categories, especially considering that Spa serves as a warm-up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Adjusting the calendar for the Monaco E-Prix avoids this conflict, although each Formula E event will be held on consecutive weekends.
However, despite the resolution of the conflict between Monaco and Spa, the calendars of Formula E and the WEC will once again overlap in 2027. The Shanghai E-Prix, scheduled for July 10 and 11, coincides with the WEC’s Sao Paulo round, forcing some drivers to choose between the two events.
The 2026/27 season of Formula E, which will debut with the new Gen4 machinery, will start in Jeddah on December 18 and 19, provided the geopolitical situation in the region permits.
Additionally, Formula E has announced that it has extended its agreement with the Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM), ensuring the championship’s continuity in the city until 2031. Monaco has become one of the most significant events for the series, racing on the same track used by Formula 1.
Alberto Longo, co-founder and director of the championship, commented: “There is no scenario in motorsport comparable to the Circuit de Monaco, and we are thrilled to bring the new era of electric racing to the principality.” This event promises to be one of the most spectacular, with high speeds, more overtakes, and intense competition on track.
