Mike Conway wins the first race at Detroit

The race has started with Mike Conway overtaking Viso for the lead, but AJ Allemendinger has flown over Scott Dixon and has crashed heavily into the wall. Dixon has been able to repair his car without being lapped, thanks to the Pace Car.

When the green flag has returned, Will Power has made a spectacular move and he has taken the fifth position. EJ Viso had some problem and he has lost a lot of positions. The race has continued without any yellow until the lap 35. Conway and Hunter-Reay have opened a big gap over Alex Tagliani and Will Power, meanwhile, Scott Dixon has recovered some positions from the back. Sebastien Bourdais has abandoned because of mechanicals problems into the pits. At lap 35, Tagliani has made a mistake and has ruined his options, and Takuma Sato stopped his car in the track with mechanicals problems, causing the second full yellow of the race. Drivers who still had not stopped have done it, and Conway has lost the lead. Hunter-Reay has moved up to first place. Behind them, Power, Franchitti and Castroneves. Sato has been able to keep racing with 2 laps lost. When the race was just to restart, Alex Tagliani has crashed into the wall, so the Pace Car has continued more laps over the track.

On the restart, Dario Franchitti has passed Will Power with a nice move, but a few moments later, Marco Andretti and Sebastian Saavedra had an incident, and the Colombian has gone into the wall, causing another full course yellow. The restart has been poor for Franchitti, Castroneves, and James Hinchcliffe, who had problems with an anti-cut tyre that was in the inside of a corner, so he has done an extra stop.

Mike Conway has opened a really big gap over Ryan Hunter-Reay. Scott Dixon has completed a spectacular comeback, getting the fourth place, and he has fought hard with Justin Wilson for the podium, but he hasn’t been able to take it, just behind them, Helio Castroneves and Dario Franchitti also fought hard, but finally they have kept their positions.
