Now it is official: Miguel Oliveira will be in MotoGP with the French team Tech 3 and KTM next season. The rider has shared the news through his social networks after the first free training session of Moto2, but until this morning has not been official at the Twitter and MotoGP account.
The Portuguese rider from the very beginning has been linked with the Australian brand; he has showed his excitement and enthusiasm due to the news. The number 44 wants to sincerely thank the brand for the trust to participate next season in MotoGP for a young man of 22 years old. I am very happy about KTM decision and that they had seen enough this year and the last one to trust me. I always have dreamt about MotoGP. But there still one long Moto2 season and the fact that this is already made, make me able to focus on my piloting and relax.
Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsports manager, also supported the new signing. The ex motocross rider claims that this decision is based on Oliveira’s effort from inferior categories until now. This step shows that we can built a structure in this paddock, growing up in the Red Bull Rookies Cup and end up in MotoGP.
Miguel Oliveira, competes with the Red Bull KTM Ajo at Moto2. Before he had been at the Red Bull Rookies Cup and the FIM CEV, he arrived in 2011 to 125cc thanks to the team Andalucia – Cajasol with Aprilia. At his debut, in Qatar, he end up p10 and his best position was in Estoril at p7.
In 2012, and with the well known Moto3, he sign for the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team, having Álex Rins as a team mate. He improved his results being second in Australia and having a podium in Catalonia. In 2013 and 2014 he was in the Mahindra Racing team with Efrén Vázquez. Finally in 2015 he signed with KTM. That year was his best year winning 254 points. In Mugello had his first victory in the championship and some podiums throughout the season.
In 2016 arrived to Moto2 thanks to the Leopard Racing team and he shared box with Danny Kent; the relationship between team and rider lasted only a year. In 2017 the Red Bull KTM Ajo resigned him in order to not release him again
