Roberto Merhi will see out the 2023/24 FIA Formula E Championship season with Mahindra Racing, as Jehan Daruvala returns for rookie test.
Mahindra Racing today announces that Roberto Merhi will remain with the team for the final four rounds of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Rome and London. After a positive performance in Jakarta, which marked his maiden Formula E race weekend, he returned to the team for a second outing at the Southwire Portland E-Prix. Roberto will now race the #8 Mahindra M9Electro for the final two double-header events in Rome and London alongside Lucas Di Grassi in the #11.
Roberto Merhi said: “I’m really looking forward to jumping back into the car for the final two races of the season. I would like to thank Mahindra Racing for the opportunity and the trust they have shown in me. I know Rome and London are new tracks for me, which will make it a bit more challenging, but I will make sure I adapt quickly.”
The team is also happy to announce that reserve driver Jehan Daruvala will take part in the Rookie free practice test session in Rome. Jehan joined Mahindra Racing at the start of Season 9 and has since attended races with the team in Diriyah, Hyderabad, Berlin and Portland. He took part in the Official Rookie Test day in Berlin, setting the third fastest time in the morning session out of the 23-car field.
Jehan Daruvala said: “I’m very grateful for the opportunity to drive for the team at the Rookie test in Rome. We had a very successful test last time out in Berlin, so I’m looking forward to more of the same in Rome.”
Mahindra Racing CEO, Fred Bertrand, said: “I am delighted that Roberto will remain with the team until the end of Season 9. He has had two positive events with us, and we have been able to work closely and constructively with him towards our end goal of improving our car over the latter half of the season. To have Jehan with us in Rome for the Rookie practice session only strengthens our team and gives us the best chance of receiving positive feedback from all our drivers heading into the Rome race weekend. I am looking forward to the final two events and then moving our focus to Season 10.”
The next race on the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship calendar is the double-header event in Rome, Italy on 15-16 July.
