Mercedes has unveiled its new safety car for Formula 1, which replaces the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. From the next race in Hungary, F1 cars will follow the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+
This model becomes the fourteenth car from the German brand to serve as a safety car in the competition. Equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine, this vehicle can deliver up to 612 hp and a maximum torque of 850 Nm. It is the first safety car to feature all-wheel drive, thanks to the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ system.
Technical characteristics
In addition to the power, the GT 63 Pro features high-performance ceramic brakes and an AMG Speedshift MCT 9G transmission, allowing for quick and effective response. One of the most notable innovations is an integrated signaling system in the rear wing, which improves visibility in any condition.
The vehicle has been specifically designed for the needs of Formula 1, with updates that include a new front splitter and a modified rear wing with an active flap, as well as aerodynamic elements that optimize stability in high-speed corners.
Debut in Hungary
For its debut in Hungary, safety driver Bernd Maylander will drive a model featuring a special anniversary livery, commemorating the 30 years that Mercedes has been supplying safety cars to Formula 1.
This year, Mercedes has taken on the sole responsibility of providing the safety and medical cars for the competition, after having previously shared this role with Aston Martin.
