Mercedes has informed that its junior programme consultant Mike Wilson has passed away, as Peugeot confirms crews for 2026 WEC season.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mike Wilson, one of the most influential figures in modern karting, and consultant to our Junior Programme. Mike was one of the most successful kart racers of his generation, winning six world titles in the 1980s.
Mike was one of the most successful kart racers of his generation, winning six world titles in the 1980s. His greatest impact though came from transferring his knowledge and expertise as a driver to others. He played a formative role in developing the careers of so many young racers and was a key part of our Junior Programme, scouting talent and supporting those drivers selected as they progressed on their journey with our team.
That continued in recent months even as Mike stoically battled illness. His warmth, dedication, and passion for motorsport left an indelible mark on the sport we all love and all those who met him. Our thoughts and condolences go to his family and friends.
