Martin Brundle, Sky Sports F1 commentator and former Formula 1 driver, has stated that the competition for the 2026 title is “a long way from being resolved” following McLaren’s victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
In his post-race article, Brundle analyzed how McLaren’s rise with their recent package of upgrades has changed the competitive landscape. This victory, the team’s fourteenth at Hungaroring, marks a significant moment in the current season.
The commentator highlighted that, assuming the rest of the calendar unfolds as planned, there are still 291 points available. However, doubts have arisen about the Qatar Grand Prix and what could be the final race in Abu Dhabi, due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
F1 is preparing contingency plans for a possible replacement race in Europe in late November or early December if the races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi cannot take place. Additionally, the previously canceled Bahrain Grand Prix has been relocated to the Sepang circuit in Malaysia and will take place from October 2 to 4.
