The two McLaren drivers have opted for a totally different and unique tyre strategy for the Belgian GP at Spa-Francorchamps during August 24-26 weekend.

The Woking-based team’s drivers will have the least number of supersoft tyre from all the teams at four and the highest number of medium compound at four along with five sets of the soft tyre.

Their choice of only four sets of supersoft tyres half the number opted by nearly all the teams except Mercedes, who have gone for six sets themselves. Both Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will have four sets of soft and three of medium at their disposal.

Ferrari and Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen have gone for sets of supersoft tyre with Kimi Raikkonen and Verstappen having five sets of soft and one medium to Sebastian Vettel’s four sets of soft and two medium.

Eight sets of supersoft compound is a common choice with Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo, Force India, Haas, Toro Rosso, Renault and Sauber all going for the same number, barring Williams who will have nine sets to themselves.

Ricciardo’s choice of four sets of soft and one medium is a match with Nico Hulkenberg, Pierre Gasly and Marcus Ericsson while Force India, Haas, Carlos Sainz, Brendon Hartley and Charles Leclerc will have three sets of soft and two medium.

For Williams, Lance Stroll has opted for two each for the remaining compounds, while Sergey Sirotkin will have three sets of the soft compound and one of medium for the Belgian GP.

The teams get 13 set of tyres for the weekend, with one set of the softest compound to be kept for use in Q3. After the completion of qualifying, the Top 10 drivers will have to return that set, while the other drivers can keep it for the race.

For the races, each driver has to keep one set each of the two harder compounds available for the weekend, while the rest 10 sets they are free to choose from the three available compounds for the particular drive.
