McLaren tweaks 2025 Formula E livery; CGR firms IndyCar line-up

McLaren Racing reveals slightly tweaked livery for 2025 Formula E season, as CGR firms up its IndyCar line-up.

McLaren –

The NEOM McLaren Formula E Team today unveiled its livery for the 2024/25 season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The 2024/25 season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will see the introduction of the GEN3 Evo cars – which are faster, more efficient and will feature all-wheel drive for the first time.

The livery on the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team’s cars is striking, headlining the team’s iconic papaya colouration, accompanied by bold linework, making it recognisably part of the NEOM McLaren Electric Racing family. The 2024/25 season will mark the third season in Formula E for the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, after entering for the first time ahead of the 2022/23 season.

In its second year, NEOM McLaren finished P7 in the teams’ standings with 101 points, with highlights including a victory in São Paulo and a podium in Shanghai. Taylor Barnard and Sam Bird will get behind the wheel of the all-new GEN3 Evo car for the 2024/25 season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, which will make its competitive debut at the São Paulo E-Prix on 7 December 2024.

Ian James, Managing Director, NEOM McLaren Electric Racing and Team Principal, NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, said: “Our livery for the upcoming season in Formula E is a demonstration of the evolution of the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team throughout the last two seasons. In preparation for the upcoming season, the team has been working hard to build on the knowledge we have gained as NEOM McLaren so far in Formula E. I can’t wait to see the team in action with this new livery.”

Sam Bird, Driver, NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, said: “I’m looking forward to my second season with the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team. This team has become like family to me, and I believe that we can achieve even better things together in the upcoming season. We’ve done some good work in our first season together; now it’s time to build on that and create even better memories in my second year with the team.”

Taylor Barnard, Driver, NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, said: “I am delighted to be racing for the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team in Season 11. In Season 10, I was the team’s Reserve and Development Driver and during that time I learnt a lot, putting my knowledge into practice in Monaco and Berlin.

“I am excited to race alongside Sam this season, and I am sure I will learn a lot from him. He is one of the most experienced drivers on the grid, and I hope that together we can score plenty of points and collect some trophies for the team. I can’t wait to get started.”

Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) has finalized its 2025 driver lineups for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, with Scott Dixon, Alex Palou and Kyffin Simpson staying with the team. Defending and three-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Alex Palou will return to the team in the No. 10 DHL Honda. Six-time champion and 2008 Indianapolis 500 winner Scott Dixon once again will drive the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda. They join Kyffin Simpson, who will drive the No. 8 Journie Rewards Honda.

In 2024, Palou delivered his third INDYCAR SERIES championship in the last four seasons. He became the first back-to-back champion since Dario Franchitti from 2009-11, also driving the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. He’ll attempt to repeat Franchitti’s feat of three consecutive championships next season.

“2024 was another amazing season in the books,” Palou said. “The work doesn’t stop, and I can’t wait to be back on track with more hunger than ever in 2025.” Dixon’s two wins in 2024 put him just nine wins away from A.J. Foyt’s record of 67. He has won a race in 20 consecutive years and in 22 of his 24 seasons. He also earned his 142nd career podium finish in the INDYCAR SERIES in 2024, setting the record for podiums in the series. He also surpassed 400 career starts, becoming the second driver to achieve the mark.

“I’m excited,” Dixon said. “I’m ready to get going. I wish there wasn’t such a long offseason. We had lots of great races last year. It didn’t end the way that we would’ve liked with some DNFs and some poor results here and there, but the team did a great job with great speed. I’m looking forward to the season and obviously going for championship number seven.”

Simpson will enter his second season in the series. Last season, the 19-year-old logged valuable laps and showed much promise, leading multiple laps during the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge.“I am very excited to continue with Chip Ganassi Racing in 2025,” Simpson said. “I look forward to building on a strong start to my INDYCAR career and I can’t wait to see what our team can achieve together.” CGR also announced earlier this month it has formed a technical alliance with Meyer Shank Racing starting with the 2025 season.
