McLaren reveals one-off Triple Crown livery for Monaco GP

McLaren has revealed a one-off Triple Crown livery for this weekend’s F1 Monaco GP, celebrating its three iconic wins.

Much like how they ran a special livery with Gulf previously, McLaren has revealed a brand new one-off livery ‘Triple Crown’ for the 2023 F1 Monaco GP – in a year where they are also celebrating its 60th anniversary.

The Triple Crown livery celebrates its 1974 Indy500 win with Johnny Rutherford in IndyCar, its 1984 Monaco GP with Alain Prost in F1, and the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans victory with JJ Lehto, Yannick Dalmas and Masanori Sekiya in WEC.

The papaya element comes from its Indy500 car covering the rear of the McLaren F1 car, where the center sharp ice white comes from its Monaco GP car. The front end is finished in black in tribute to the F1 GTR machine from Le Mans 24 Hours.

The livery will be used in the Spanish GP too as McLaren have dived into its archves to produce five films. They will release with four portrait stories highlighting their maiden victories in Indy500, Monaco GP and Le Mans 24 Hours.

There are exclusive narratives from names such as Johnny Rutherford, Alain Prost, JJ Lehto, Sir Jackie Stewart and Mario Andretti. There are limited editions merchandise available too with the special range produced for the celebrations.

“Having achieved the greatest accomplishment in motorsport by completing the Triple Crown, we are proud to celebrate the rich history of McLaren Racing with a special livery at the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix,” said Zak Brown. “In line with our 60th anniversary celebrations and honouring the legacy of Bruce McLaren, the unique livery pays homage to the three victories which form the Triple Crown accolade.”

At the same time Norris stated: “It’s a privilege to be involved in McLaren Racing’s 60th anniversary celebrations and to combine three iconic race winning McLaren liveries into one for the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix is going to be a special moment for the whole team.

“McLaren have an impressive record in Monte Carlo and on a personal level to have experienced a podium at the 2021 race was a huge honour. We’ll be racing hard in a great looking car to celebrate Bruce McLaren and the team’s amazing legacy.”

And finally, Piastri added: “The Triple Crown livery looks incredible, and I can’t imagine a better way to experience my first Monaco Grand Prix as a Formula 1 Driver with McLaren Racing. Bruce McLaren was a winner in Monte Carlo in 1962 and the McLaren team have such rich history at the Monaco Grand Prix. I will feel incredibly proud lining up on the grid in the MCL60, carrying the same colours as the three Triple Crown winning race cars.”
