McLaren will test F1 2027 car concepts with the latest improvements from 2026

McLaren has announced that its latest updates to the Formula 1 car for the 2026 season will also serve to test fundamental concepts that will be applied to the 2027 model. This was communicated after the Singapore Grand Prix, where the team director, Andrea Stella, detailed the improvement plan for the upcoming circuits.

The updates will be implemented in the remaining competition days, with tests in Austin, Mexico City, and São Paulo. This strategy will allow McLaren to validate the innovations on tracks with diverse characteristics, a key factor for the team when it comes to improving its performance in the F1 constructors’ standings.

Stella emphasized that while the improvements are designed to aid the car’s performance this season, they are also being used to prepare the ground for the future. ‘We hope that these updates will allow us to make a leap in quality and be able to compete for podiums, as long as conditions allow,’ he added.

With the goal of catching Ferrari and maintaining third place in the standings, the Woking team wants to validate some ideas that may be fundamental for the 2027 car. Stella explained that aerodynamic evolution has become increasingly complex and that they want to ensure that each change has a positive impact.

Currently, McLaren is battling with Red Bull, which has closed to within just seven points after the Singapore Grand Prix, with Ferrari remaining 105 points behind. With a total of 258 points still available, the team will have to defend its position in the last races of the season, considering the uncertainty surrounding the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix due to the situation in Iran.
