McLaren is chasing Huski Chocolate for unpaid dues of its sponsorship deal in F1 for three seasons, after filing claim in court.
McLaren signed a sponsorship deal with Huski Chocolate for three seasons between F1 2019 and 2021. They even sponsored Sauber via Marcus Ericsson and extended its sponsorship in IndyCar, and also backed certain football teams outside its racing activities.
But things started to look bleak when it started to default on its payment to clients. McLaren claimed outstanding due of 4.66 million euros from Huski Chocolate after the deal ended in 2021. With no response from the Swedish company, it started to chase them via UK court after filing a commercial case for unclaimed money in May of 2023.
It filed a case against parent company, Choki AB and guarantor, Kvalitena AB. The things got further complicated when Choki AB filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. By 2021, McLaren still owed about 1.1 million euros and the latest documents from 2024 show unpaid amounts of 1,250,910.30 euros and 81,884.66 pounds.
In its chase, McLaren has dropped several letters to Choki AB and Kvalitena AB seeking unpaid dues, but has received no response whatsoever. The bankruptcy situation only makes things complicated, with no guarantee if the Woking-based F1 outfit will ever get the money it owes from the Swedish company.
