Max Verstappen, Formula 1 driver and world champion, has once again showcased his talent in a karting competition at Silverstone, where he took part in the event ‘Max vs 100’.
Held on Wednesday, this challenge pitted the Dutchman against 100 amateur competitors, including content creators, motorsport professionals, and athletes from various disciplines.
The challenge involved Verstappen needing to surpass all participants on a custom-designed circuit, combining the karting track with sections of the actual Silverstone layout, including the famous Brooklands corner.
Despite the challenge’s difficulty, Verstappen only needed 14 laps to surpass all his rivals, completing the competition in 37 minutes. He achieved this thanks to an exceptional start, where he overtook 64 drivers on the first lap and 84 on the fifth.
After his performance, Verstappen shared his surprise at the performance he achieved. “As I approached the grid and saw the spot where I had to start, I thought: ‘phew, that’s far away’,” he commented. “But after the first lap, I felt we could do it well.”
The driver emphasized the importance of the first two laps in determining the success of his race. “If I could get through the first laps well, I knew it could be a race of between 15 and 20 laps. The first lap was better than I expected, and that helped me a lot,” he added.
His immediate reaction at the start of the race demonstrated his experience as a Formula 1 driver, excellently starting from the grid and overtaking multiple rivals in the first corner. “You just have to act on instinct and see where the gaps are. You have to trust that the other drivers won’t do anything crazy,” he explained, highlighting that the other competitors were respectful during the race.
For years, Verstappen has participated in various events organized by Red Bull, including GT tests and competitions with his former teammate Daniel Ricciardo. Enthusiastic about these unique challenges, he has even suggested that it would be fun to compete against 200 amateur drivers in the future.
The initiative by Red Bull, known for organizing innovative events, has allowed Verstappen to showcase his character and skills in a different way, creating memorable moments for both him and the motorsport-loving community.
