Max Fewtrell has obtained a win on the second race of the Paul Ricard weekend, the FR 2.0 Eurocup season opener. The British driver has been able to defend pole position and he has crossed in firs place with few opposition. Yifei Ye completes a great debut weekend with a second place today, ahead of Christian Lundgaard.

The start was cleaner than yesterday. After the chaos of Race 1, all drivers were more careful at the start. Fewtrell stayed in first place ahead of Ye and Logan Sargeant. Behind them, Lundgaard did a great overtake on Victor Martins for fourth place.

Xavier Lloveras retired on lap two due to a mechanical issue that forced him to stop the car and bring his unlucky weekend to an early ending.

When the race seemed stabilised, Clement Novalak and Najiy Ayyad collided and the Safety Car had to be deployed. It was during this SC that the biggest surprise of the weekend happened when Race 1 winner Logan Sargeant started to slow down and ended up retiring, his car had got stuck in sixth gear. Lundgaard inherited the final podium spot.

With six minutes and a lap to go, the SC returned to the pits and the race was restarted. Fewtrell defended from Ye. The British started to open a gap that would be enough to give him the first win of the season and his second on the series.

Before the end of the race, there were some more incidents that put in danger the race’s normal development. A few metres before the last lap, Lorenzo Colombo andd Raul Guzman crashed and retired. Aleksandr Smolyar, who was in sixth place, retired.

To sum up, a deserved win for Fewtrell, who is now leading the standings with a ten-point gap to Ye, who has got his first posium finishes on the series. Lundgaard, with this third place, has the same points as Sargeant. Martins, Verschoor, Oscar Piastri, Thomas Maxwell, Alex Peroni, Neil Verhagen and Max Defourny completed the Top 10.
