Maverick Viñales: ‘If I’m not in MotoGP next year, only KTM will be to blame’

Maverick Viñales, Tech3 rider, has pointed out that if he does not continue in MotoGP next season, the responsibility will solely fall on KTM. The championship contender has expressed that the brand has not adequately communicated its plans, thereby limiting his options.

Viñales, who has achieved 10 grand prix victories, is in an uncertain situation regarding his future. KTM wants to wait to see the rider’s performance when he is fully recovered before deciding on his continuity.

The situation is complicated because the team has signed nearly all its riders for next year, and the rider market has moved at a record pace ahead of the arrival of the 850cc MotoGP era.

Furthermore, KTM holds an option on Viñales until the end of June, which restricts his ability to seek alternatives. In statements made in Assen, the rider mentioned that there should have been better communication regarding the situation when the original plan to promote him to the factory team was abandoned.

“The plan was for me to enter the factory team. So, believe it or not, it’s complicated. I don’t see myself out of the world championship. If I leave here, there are many other paths; it’s not the end of the world. If I’m not in the championship, it will be due to one party: KTM,” stated Viñales.

Recently, Pirelli organized a special test that gave contracted riders the opportunity to try out 850cc bikes and the 2027 tires. Curiously, KTM decided not to include Viñales in this test, a decision the rider interprets as a sign of his possible exclusion from the team.

“No, there are no updates. But KTM didn’t call me to do the test on Monday in Brno, so I think it’s quite evident what I can deduce,” he commented. “If I had been one of the few riders who would stay, I could have done the test on the 850cc bike, and they didn’t allow me to,” he added, expressing his frustration at the lack of communication from KTM.
