Martin reflects on setback to start MotoGP defence after surgery

Jorge Martin, Aprilia

Jorge Martin has had his surgery as he reflects on the setback he has had in the year where he defends his MotoGP crown.

Jorge Martin’s surgery was successfully completed. The MotoGP World Champion had suffered a complex fracture of the radius, some carpal bones on the left side and an ipsilateral calcaneal fracture during a training session. Jorge Martin has undergone surgery at the Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona by Professor Mir and his team.

The procedure was completed successfully, with the implantation of two screws at the level of the radius fracture and one at the level of the left scaphoid for stabilization and to facilitate the healing process.

Surgery was done via a percutaneous approach with arthroscopic assistance. In the coming days, the prognosis will be evaluated on the basis of Jorge’s clinical condition. Martin will be replaced by Lorenzo Savadori for Round 1.

Jorge Martin: “The blows are always hard, but when they come one after another, the impact is multiplied. This time they have been especially strong, both physically and mentally, and have made me miss the opening race of the season for the first time in my life. The year has not started as I would have liked.

“On Monday, while I was training for the first time after the fall in Sepang to arrive in the best possible condition for Thailand, I suffered a highside that caused me four new fractures, in addition to the three I had already suffered from two weeks ago. If there is one thing I am clear about, it is that blows can be overcome.

“I don’t know if this will make me stronger, but I do know that I will get through it, as I have always done. Now my only goal is to recover 100% to compete again and enjoy my passion, which is motorcycles. Because there are many races, but there is only one hand. Thanks to Aprilia for supporting me at all times, to my family, to all my fans and to all the people who encourage me every day. From the bottom of my heart.”
