MotoGP rider Marc Márquez has shared his expectations regarding the introduction of 850cc engine bikes for the 2027 season. According to Márquez, although the top speed will decrease, lap times will remain similar.
This radical change in the championship includes a reduction in engine capacity, a more restricted aerodynamic design, a ban on height devices, and the use of Pirelli tires. MotoGP authorities have assured that these new regulations will help reduce costs and make racing safer.
Currently, three of the five participating brands have already started testing their new prototypes, but it won’t be until the 2027 season begins that they will be able to make a conclusive assessment about the impact of these changes.
Márquez has expressed that competition speed, which has reached 360km/h on some circuits, is unnecessary for the spectacle and increases the risk for riders. Furthermore, he pointed out that the safety areas of the circuits have become smaller as bikes have gained speed.
Although he has not been able to test the new bikes for 2027, he stated that weight and power reduction will facilitate improved agility, allowing lap times to be maintained or even improved on several circuits.
The Ducati rider acknowledges that no one can guarantee who will have the best bike in 2027, as competition and adaptation will be key in this new era of motorcycling.
