via motogp.com

Marc Marquez got the pole position in the MotoGP British Grand Prix, at Silverstone, beating the circuit record with a time of 1.59.941. Rossi was second, followed by Crutchlow, Viñales, Lorenzo, Dovizioso and Pedrosa.

After the first attempts in Q1, Jonas Folger was leading, with a 2.01.162, followed by Dani Pedrosa less than a tenth from the German. Alex Rins was third, one tenth from the German, being more than half a second ahead of the rest of the rivals. Petrucci fell from his bike but had time to return to the pits for a last chance.

The Italian could only achieve the fifth place, far away from accessing to Q2. Pedrosa, on the other hand, got to the first position with the best time of the weekend until then: 2.00.830. Iannone, who was improving Dani’s time, made a mistake in the third sector that relegated him to the seventh place. Folger, without improving his initial time, was the second rider to get into Q2. Behind him: Rins, Bautista, Iannone, Barbera, Miller, Petrucci, Smith, Abraham, Baz, Rabat, and Lowes.

For Q2, all riders chose the soft rear tires. For the front tire, most opted for the hard, except for Rossi, Viñales, Zarco and Folger, who chose the medium. After the first run, Marquez was the fastest, followed by Viñales, Crutchlow and Folger. The rider from Cervera achieved the record of the circuit with a 2.00.106. The riders went into the pits and got ready for the last battle.

For the second run, Lorenzo changed his hard front tire for the medium. Pol Espargaro fell in the while trying to follow Marquez. Several drivers were improving in different sectors, but only Marquez achieved a time under two minutes, with a 1.59.941, thus securing pole. Rossi was second, followed by Crutchlow. Viñales finished fourth, followed by Lorenzo and Dovizioso. The third row was occupied by Pedrosa, Zarco and Aleix Espargaro, while the fourth was for Folger, Pol Espargaro and Redding.
