The Catalan rider set the fastest time, as usual, at the first free practice at Silverstone Circuit 2: 03,208, behind him are both Italian Ducati riders Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Ianonne. To find the Yamaha riders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi we have to go down to the seventh and eighth of the timetable

Marquez scored the first significant time of the session (2: 05 404).

 

30 minutes before the end of the first session Márquez sets a 2: 03721 and located almost a second Dovizioso who was second behind Stefan Bradl.

 

In the final 22 minutes it started to rain and Lorenzo was ninth ran out of chances to score a better time. All riders head for the pits but after some time returned to the track.

 

The session ended without rain and the drivers was able to improve their times, leaving Marquez in first position followed by the Ducati riders.

 

Regarding incidents, the British driver Michael Laverty had to retire due to a mechanical problem in his PBM Open.
