Márquez scores pole position in final showdown

marc marquez pole position cheste

Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) scores last pole position of the season at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia. He’s followed by Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech3) in 2nd and Andrea Iannone (Suzuki ECSTAR) completes the top 3.

Q1 sees the biggest surprise in the form of Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha), not making it through to Q2. The Spaniard looses out on Q2 by just a few tenths, finishing third of an interesting session. Tito Rabat (EG 0.0 Marc VDS) looked confident on track, quickly setting a competitive time, followed by Pol Espargaro (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia) and Viñales. But its is the Espargaro brothers who will take the top spots and continue to Q2.

In Q2 we see a very impressive Marc Márquez, directly going fast and managing the fastest time in the first stage of the session half a second quicker than all his rivals. Jorge Lorenzo is quick as well, managing the second quickest time. But as he pushes for a better time, the Spaniard has a massive crash, yet luckily stands up un-scattered.

In the final stage, we see a crash for championship leader Marc Márquez. A lot of drivers unable to improve, with the exceptions of Johann Zarco and Andrea Iannone who climb to the 2nd and 3rd spot. With his fabulous lap set in the beginning of Q2, Marc Márquez keeps pole position. Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati) is 4th as he didn’t manage to improve after his massive crash, he’s followed by Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda).

Micheles Pirro (Ducati) is 6th, followed by Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) in 7th and Aleix Espargaro in 8th . Andrea Dovisiozo (Ducati) is only in 9th, followed by Alex Rins  (Suzuki Ecstar) who completes the top 10.

With Márquez on pole and Dovisiozo in 9th, the odds are in the favour of the spaniard, but anything can happen and that will sure make for an interesting race tomorrow.
