Marc Márquez faces his participation in the German Grand Prix with the perspective that repeating the victory achieved in previous editions will not be easy. Although he has dominated the event so far, with fast lap times and a standout performance in the sprint race, the Ducati rider positions himself as one of the keys with the intention to improve.
Despite being the fastest rider and winning the sprint race, Márquez does not consider himself a favorite for victory in the main race. With twelve wins at Sachsenring throughout his career, including nine in the premier category, the Spaniard acknowledges that the current conditions are more complicated than in the past.
Márquez emphasized that, despite his victories, the other bikes are not far from his speed. ‘It is not normal to have a victory here, and the question that remains is why the others have finished so close,’ he said. In his opinion, strategy was what made the difference during the middle-distance race, where he managed to overtake his brother Álex Márquez and Fabio di Giannantonio.
In his assessment, Márquez confessed to feeling ‘uncomfortable’ on the bike, highlighting that the improvements made by his team did not work as expected. ‘I need to understand why I have been so uncomfortable during the race. We need to improve because if we don’t, we will finish third,’ he admitted.
In recent months, Márquez has struggled with physical limitations due to surgery on his shoulder blade, performed in May, but the Sachsenring configuration is favorable for him, as it reduces pressure on his right side. In this regard, he mentioned that, despite some elbow discomfort, he feels good compared to other circuits.
Finally, regarding his brother, the current world champion expressed that, without the fall in Catalonia that caused him fractures, Álex Márquez could have fought for victory in the sprint race, and he is happy to see him competing at a high level.
