Marquez’s disaster at the Japanese GP with unacceptable mistakes

Alex Marquez experienced a weekend to forget at the Japanese Grand Prix, held in Motegi. The Gresini rider not only failed to score any points but also accompanied his performance with several mistakes that marked his participation.

The complications began during Saturday’s sprint race, where he misjudged his braking at turn 3, affecting two rivals, Pedro Acosta and Fabio di Giannantonio, and received a double long lap penalty. Despite serving the penalty, Marquez was in a good position, but fell on lap 19, thus summing up his third fall of the weekend.

After the competition, Marquez acknowledged that his falls on Sunday were caused by an error in shifting gears. He admitted to incorrectly shifting up two gears, leaving the motorcycle in an inappropriate position for turn 11. ‘I didn’t place my foot where I should have, ending up shifting to a higher gear twice,’ he commented.

The young Spanish rider expressed his frustration, calling his mistakes ‘unacceptable’ at such a high level of competition. ‘While trying to shift to second gear, I accidentally shifted to fourth two times. This is very big, considering I am a size 44, but it’s a mistake I shouldn’t make,’ he added.

Marquez also reflected on his performance and lamented not being able to take advantage of his competitive rhythm in Motegi, where his brother, Marc Marquez, won. ‘It’s always disappointing when you make a mistake, regardless of the position you are in,’ he concluded.

Moreover, he criticized the inconsistency in long lap penalties, considering that the conditions at the Motegi circuit were harsher than at other tracks where this type of sanctions are applied. ‘The long lap here is like doing four of another track, given the time that is lost,’ he emphasized.
