In a decisive weekend at Phillip Island, MotoGP riders Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin face off in an intense battle for the title, with only two points separating them in the standings.
Consistency has been the key to Martin’s rise to the top of the championship, while Marquez has relied on speed to make up ground, managing to recover 102 points in just seven races.
After winning at Mugello and San Marino, Marquez has secured six victories, five of which have been in double races (sprint and grand prix), in contrast to Martin’s sole victory at Le Mans. Nonetheless, Martin has achieved nine podiums and five sprint race wins, showcasing his competitive strength.
Speed and Instinct
Marquez praised Martin’s speed, noting that one of his greatest virtues is that he “doesn’t think too much” when he’s on the bike. “Jorge rides instinctively, although over time he has started to think a bit more,” Marquez commented during an interview in Australia.
The multiple champion also recalled the 2024 race in Malaysia, where Martin was competing for the title. On that occasion, Martin showed impressive consistency and determination in the early laps, battling neck and neck with Francesco Bagnaia despite not needing a risky approach.
Marquez noted that Martin fought in the early laps as if it were the last, an example of his racing mentality. “This shows that he acts on instinct, that he simply attacks, and for me, this is one of his great virtues,” he concluded.
