Marc Marquez, after being untouchable in the rest of free practices, got the pole position in the Grand Prix of the Americas.
There were no surprises in Q1 and Alvaro Bautista and Aleix Espargaro got through, but Espargaro’s position was in danger when Scott Redding was fastest in the first two sectors during his last lap, but he lost time in the end and didn’t improve the time of the Spaniard. Behind Redding, Nicky Hayden and Johnny Hernandez completed the Q1 top five.
All the riders were quickly on track to make the most of the few minutes of the session. Marc Marquez was on top of the timesheets in the beginning. His teammate in the Repsol Honda team Dani Pedrosa was second, followed by Stefan Bradl and Jorge Lorenzo.
After changing tyres, nobody could improve the time of Marquez, who was still being fast and set a time of 2:02.773. Pedrosa finished three tenths behind the championship leader, followed by Bradl, Aleix Espargaro and Lorenzo in the top five.
