The Red Bull pilot Mark Webber ruled the rainy test session in Barcelona followed by Hamilton, Vergne and Bottas. Massa was eighth having had a problem at the end. Webber did his timing with soft tyres and so did Bottas and Perez, while Hamilton and Felipe Massa got theirs with intermediate tyres.

The session was mostly on a wet track. In the afternoon Felipe Massa was the first one to put dry tyres on his Ferrari and started lowing the timings. 10 minutes later, all the pilots were putting the same tyres and the timings lowered rousingly. As the track got dry in the afternoon, some teams did short rounds with soft tyres and others (like Ferrari) did long runs and race simulations.

Felipe Massa stopped on track half hour away from the end of the session. It appears that the Brazilian pilot ran out of fuel. The Ferrari car behaved very well in wet conditions and Felipe was the fastest when the track began drying up, so it looks like the Ferrari car heats the tyres very well.

Timings in tests are always irrelevant, but today’s timings are even more so, as they were in changing weather conditions and with different development programmes. The pilots who did the most laps were Lewis Hamilton with his Mercedes (he almost did the distance corresponding to two races with 113 laps) and Felipe Massa ended the test with 112 laps on his Ferrari.
