The 1978 Formula 1 champion, Mario Andretti, has expressed his satisfaction with Cadillac’s debut team at the Australian Grand Prix, anticipating that it would be a great success if drivers Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas manage to complete their first race.
Andretti, a board member of the American team, highlighted the journey taken to reach this moment. “We have been waiting for this for a while, and now we are here. There’s still work to do, but I am very proud of this entire group,” he declared.
As he faces the first grand prix, Andretti believes the main goal is to finish the race, arguing that it would be a “huge success” if both drivers manage to do so. Pérez and Bottas will start from 18th and 19th positions on the grid, respectively.
According to Andretti, “this is the first step, and I think it would be a great victory if we can get both cars to the finish line. One step at a time, but the ingredients for success are here.” The 86-year-old veteran praised the work done by Graeme Lowdon, who has played a key role in structuring the team, highlighting the passion of the members who have worked on it.
Andretti added that, despite the inexperience of some of the drivers, he trusts that the team has the necessary potential to successfully establish itself in the competition. “We’re here to stay. It’s a long-term commitment, and the ingredients for success are here,” he assured.
