Marc Márquez talks about his injection difficulties in MotoGP in Austin

The MotoGP world champion, Marc Márquez, has opened his heart about the complications he experienced during the last event in Austin, Texas. After an accident during the practice sessions, his performance at the Circuit of the Americas was disappointing, raising questions about his physical condition and possible risks for his future in competitions.

Márquez continues to struggle with the effects of his fall in Jerez in 2020, an incident that has marked his career. Adding to this is the injury sustained during the Indonesian Grand Prix last season. In his recent fall in Austin, which primarily affected his right side, he experienced one of his most challenging weekends in recent times.

In a press conference in Jerez, Márquez stated that he already feels recovered after a period of rest. However, he acknowledges that his performance at COTA was influenced by a set of physical problems he had preferred not to share immediately.

Analysis of the accident

Regarding the fall on Friday, the rider indicated that it was significant. “I don’t like falling during the weekend because it doesn’t benefit me,” he explained, while showing the marks left on his right forearm.

Márquez acknowledged that the last races have been a challenge, as his physical condition varied from Friday to Sunday. “It was as if each day I was a different rider: worse every time,” he reflected.

He noted that one way to tell if he was physically suffering was to observe the position of his elbow while riding. “The ‘elbow up’ indicates protection, while ‘elbow down’ means confidence and no pain,” he added.

Toward recovery

Márquez also discussed the difficulties he faces in maintaining body temperature while waiting on the grid, which ultimately affects the opening laps of the race. “During practice, I can warm up before getting on the bike, but in the race you have to wait 25 minutes and then restart,” he said.

Despite all these setbacks, Márquez has ruled out excuses for the upcoming race. He claims he is in better physical condition than in past races and has expressed optimism for the future: “I am not at 110%, but I am at maximum to compete effectively in MotoGP.”
