Mansell gets Stanek’s Trident F2 seat for rest of 2024 season

F3 racer Christian Mansell is handed FIA F2 debut by Trident as he will replace Roman Stanek for remainder of the 2024 season.

Trident Motorsport announces a change in its FIA Formula 2 Championship line-up for the upcoming round at Baku. At the demanding and fast Baku street circuit, the team will welcome 19-year-old Australian Christian Mansell, who will make his FIA Formula 2 Championship debut, before competing in the next rounds in Doha and Abu Dhabi with Trident Motorsport.

The driver from Maitland finished the FIA Formula 3 Championship in fifth place last weekend, with five podiums and one pole position to his name.  Now, the time has come for him to make the step to a higher category. Mansell already worked with the Trident Motosport technical staff during the post-season test last year in Abu Dhabi.

Although it was with the previous-generation car, he already had a positive contact with F2 and with the team, on which he left an excellent impression. Trident Motorsport wishes to say goodbye and thank you to Roman Stanek at the end of a fruitful collaboration that lasted for almost three seasons. The Czech driver climbed to the top step of the podium in both categories.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager: “We are extremely delighted to field Australian driver Christian Mansell in the next three rounds of the FIA Formula 2 Championship. I consider him one of the most talented emerging drivers we have seen this year in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, where he was in contention for the title until the final round in Monza.

“Christian is a complete driver, quick in qualifying, and extremely good at managing tyres and overtaking. Making his debut in Baku will certainly be an ambitious goal, not easy at all. We have carried out dedicated preparation work with him, and I am convinced that it will pay dividends, especially if there will be no interruptions in the free practice session. I am sure there are all the conditions to do well”.

Christian Mansell, driver Trident Motorsport, FIA F2 Championship 2024: “I can’t wait to make my FIA Formula 2 debut with Trident Motorsport. I’m extremely happy to race with this Italian team on the Baku street circuit and in the next two events before the end of the season. It will be a fiery debut on a challenging track like the Azerbaijani one, but I must confess I’m more excited than nervous!”
