Nicholas Latifi took his maiden win in GP2/F2 at Silverstone ahead of both Russian Time of Luca Ghiotto and Artem Markelov.
Nicholas Latifi (DAMS) started from pole position ahead of Jordan King (MP Motorsport) and Luca Ghiotto (Russian Time). Good start for Ghiotto who took 2nd place and excellent start for Rowland who gained 4 placed up to 3rd place while King was forced out of the track and had to retire in the pits.
The best getaway of the race was Nyck De Vries’ (Rapax) as he went from P20 to P11 within 3 laps. Charles Leclerc (Prema), was waiting behind Sergio Canamasas (Rapax) in P5 while Oliver Rowland (DAMS) got a 5-second penalty who forced Artem Markelov (Russian Time) off track.
After 11 laps, Leclerc managed to pass Canamasas in a tough battle. Meanwhile, Rowland put pressure on Ghiotto for 2nd place with Markelov and Leclerc catching up.
The race is interrupted with three laps to go as Ralph Boschung (Campos) made a mistake in his overtake manoeuvre on Alex Albon (ART GP). The safety car was deployed, gathering the pack up and ruining Rowland’s chances of points. The race restarted for one lap which led to Markelov overtaking Rowland and Canamasas passing Leclerc on the last lap.
Latifi took his maiden win in the category ahead of Ghiotto and Markelov. Canamasas, Leclerc, Nato, De Vries, Matsushita, Malja and Rowland completed the classified top 10.
