Maiden pole position in Indy Lights for Colton Herta

Colton Herta has taken the pole position for Indy Lights race 2 at Saint Petersburg, Florida. The driver of Andretti Steinbrenner will start ahead of Santiago Urrutia and his team mate Dalton Kellet.

In the early stages of the qualifying, Zachary Claman de Melo (Carlin) was leading with a lap time of 1:10.4627, which was quickly improved by Kyle Kaiser (Juncos Racing) with a 1:07.7831.

The track was improving and at half point of the session, Colton Herta (Andretti Steinbrenner Racing) was the quickest ahead of Santiago Urrutia (Belardi Auto Racing) and Kaiser.

Lap times were improving and five minutes later, the rookies Patrico O’Ward (Team Pelfrey) and Aaron Telitz (Belardi Auto Racing) put themselves on the first two positions despite the small differences with the whole field.

It was in the latest 5 minutes that all the drivers were improving the lap times, especially Herta with 3 minutes remaining. The 16 years-old driver beat the barrier of 1min 07s, and then improved his lap time by 3 tenths of second, assuring his maiden pole position in Indy Lights.
