Kevin Magnussen talks about his touch with Lewis Hamilton in F1 Canadian GP, as he adds on the complaint from Esteban Ocon towards FIA.
Having had a good qualifying on Saturday in F1 Canadian GP, Haas’ Magnussen fell back in the order after a contact with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton which damaged his front wing endplate. He had no issues with the Brit after the hit though.
“I mean, just had a bit of contact, nothing serious,” said Magnussen to media. “Scratched my front wing a little bit and then was told to pit. It is what it is. I was keeping up. The car was fine. The front wing was safe, it was not broken off. Think back to Jeddah last year, Lewis Hamilton, won the race with half a front wing, which I think is correct.
“Let us race if we can,” summed up Magnussen, who stated that he had chat with Alpine’s Esteban Ocon after he complained the FIA about his broken front wing. The Dane was not happy how the FIA listened the Frenchman and asked him to pit.
“I was just talking to Ocon now and he was joking how he told the FIA that it was really bad,” said Magnussen. “If you know you can influence the FIA like that, you’re going to do it, aren’t you? Which he sort of did, and fair play. But you got to let us drive with that shit, you know, it’s nothing.
“I don’t know, I mean, it feels like suddenly very different. Monaco they don’t start us because it started drizzling, and then here I’m called in because I have a scratch on my front wing,” summed up Magnussen, who eventually finished outside the points.
“We pit on lap 10 or something and we tried to do the rest of the race on hard, one set, always going to be difficult,” said Magnussen. “You’re still trying to fight your way into the points, you never know what can happen, so you’re pushing. as hard as you can and nothing came out of it today but we’ll try again next time.”
