Kevin Magnussen felt it was a racing incident with Yuki Tsunoda in F1 Chinese GP after the clash at the re-start.

It wasn’t as great for either Haas’ Magnussen and Visa Cash App RB’s Tsunoda in F1 Chinese GP. Both were running outside the points, with the Japanese driver looking in a slightly better shape to score with how the race was panning out.

The re-start undone both their races. Tsunoda went a bit wide at Turn 6 and Magnussen saw an opportunity to take the inside line. However, the Dane seemingly went a bit more towards his left than he should have, thereby making contact with the Japanese driver.

He was spun around with a puncture which ended his race. Magnussen continued to finish 16th. Post-race, the Dane felt it could have been a racing incident after the stewards agreed that he was predominantly to be blamed for the clash.

“It seems to me like he was going very wide and then he made a mistake anyway and I was kind of locked in my rotation and I couldn’t really do anything more but they think it was a penalty for me,” said Magnussen to media. “It is what it is. I think it feels like I did what I could do.

“When we had contact, there was a car’s width, so I think we just misread each other a little bit I guess. I need to review it but for me, might as well be a racing incident,” summed up Magnussen, as Tsunoda defended his side stating that he gave enough room to the Dane and still he hit him.

The time penalty was just as per the Japanese. “It was pretty frustrated how I ended up especially…I gave space to him quite a lot but ended up in a DNF, it is pretty frustrating and I am pretty annoyed,” said Tsunoda. “The 10s penalty is better than 5s, I think it is the minimum penalty that they should give.

“He is still racing and I am not. I kind of like that race, shame that I ended up with a DNF in the middle of the race, still lot of things to work on. The pace wasn’t also still great, I was pretty happy with progress I was doing but the pace itself wasn’t great, it was normal.”
