Kevin Magnussen says the start to F1 2024 season is a start that he has never had in his career, amid constant struggles and frustration.
It just hasn’t been the year so far for Haas’ Magnussen. He has found himself in a deep hole on the brink of a F1 race ban coming his way at some point. He has collected 10 penalty points since the start of 2024 – two more and he is banned for one event.
The only positive light is the 12 points getting refreshed to start afresh without the baggage of getting through 2024 with any more penalties. There was a scare for him in Monaco GP when he collided with Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg on Lap 1.
The Mexican was surprised by non-action by the FIA stewards as Magnussen breathed a sigh of relief, but he was not in the mood to entertain questions on it. While Hulkenberg has had a slightly better run, the Dane has only one point to show for his cause.
And it is certainly taking a toll on Magnussen, who is frustrated by the situation where nothing is clicking. He doesn’t want to put it down to bad luck either, which he reckons is only an excuse for poor start to his 2024 campaign.
“That’s probably been the most frustrating,” started Magnussen. “A start to a year…like I have never had. It just seems like uphill struggle all the time. It’s not clicking. So hopefully, we can turn things around. We have a strong package. So we got to use it. And I don’t want to…I hate, stating bad luck.
“Because it’s a lot of times you have something to say and even though things aren’t going your way. You feel like you’re not getting lucky, then you know, you kind of have that as an excuse. So… just got to keep our heads cool. And stay positive about the strong package that we have and try to have it click,” summed up Magnussen.
