Luka Sammalisto has demonstrated his superiority in the first grand prix of the season finale of the Italian Formula 4 held at Mugello, where he obtained his tenth victory of the season. The Finnish driver, who had already secured the title at the penultimate event in Misano last September, led the race from start to finish, easily controlling the gap with the rivals behind him in a race predominantly free from incidents.
After the race, Sammalisto commented: “The start was very good. Here you have to manage the tires well, which I achieved perfectly. The car felt amazing, so I thank the whole US Racing team. I hope to end the year with another triple of victories.”
The McLaren driver, Christian Costoya, defended second position against Elia Weiss from Jenzer Motorsport, but could not close the gap to Sammalisto at the front. Weiss faced complications during the formation lap but regained his position alongside poleman Sammalisto just in time for the start.
However, the reaction to the lights at the start was slow for Weiss, allowing Costoya to claim second place on the first lap. Weiss attempted to pressure Costoya in the early laps but could not reclaim second place. Behind him, Ludovico Busso completed the podium for US Racing, struggling to control his car in the final laps.
Andy Consani from R-ace GP tried to take advantage of Busso’s mistakes but ultimately finished just behind him at the line. Meanwhile, Augustus Toniolo from Trident made a spectacular comeback from the sixth row to finish sixth, just two seconds behind Consani.
The drivers Alp Aksoy from Prema and Iacopo Martinese from US Racing rounded out the top eight, while Thomas Bearman fell to ninth position after an incident with Bader Al Sulaiti that forced both drivers to pit. Al Sulaiti retired, while Bearman reappeared on track nearly a lap behind the leaders.
