Yamaha has announced the return of Jorge Lorenzo to MotoGP as a wildcard to ride the M1 during the Catalan GP at Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona.

Following the pre-season tests at Sepang and Losail, Lorenzo seemed to be in a good space as he kept the option of competing as a wildcard open during the 2020 MotoGP season. It took only few weeks to get it confirmed as he returns during Catalan GP.

Lorenzo will ride in a third Yamaha M1 alongside Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales during the June 5-7 weekend, which will be his first MotoGP race since the 2019 Valencia GP. So far the Catalan GP is the only outing confirmed for the Spaniard.

“After some weeks thinking about it, yesterday I decided I will compete at the Catalan GP,” Lorenzo. “I’m really looking forward to it and I’ll see you all there.” The Spaniard will continue with his testing duties alongside the competitive return.

While there is good news of a Lorenzo return to MotoGP but the 2020 season is not to start until April with the cancellation of Qatar GP and postponement of Thai GP due to COVID-19 outbreak. The current schedule is for the season to start with the Americas GP.
